Guidelines for the Submission of Orations

Closing Date for the Submission: 15th May 2026

Submissions are invited for the following orations to be held at the Sri Lanka Surgical Congress, 2nd – 5th September 2026:

  1. Prof Milroy Paul oration
  2. Dr A M de Silva oration
  3. SASCS Oration
  1. The SASCS Oration should cover an area relevant to surgery in the South Asian region. Any surgeon or surgical trainee from the South Asian region can make a submission (Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Afghanistan).
  2. The oration should be based on original and personal work related to the field of surgery and surgical sciences and should not have been previously presented in a similar context in a public or academic forum.
  3. The Council of the CSSL and the Selection Committee has the right to request authors to submit data sheets, databases, original images, consent forms, etc., to confirm the authenticity of the scientific data submitted.
  4. All submissions will be anonymized before evaluation and independently assessed by a panel of referees. Please do not include any identifying information about the place or centre where the study was conducted.
  5. Authors are requested to abide by publication ethics, including avoiding falsification of data, plagiarism, improper authorship, misappropriation of ideas, violation of research practices, and failure to comply with regulatory requirements.
  6. The oration bibliography should be robust, structured, and presented using standard reference formats (e.g., Vancouver style).
  7. The following five (05) documents must be emailed as PDF files to srilankasurgicalcongress@gmail.com after informing the college office before 16:00 hours on Saturday, 15th May 2026. Late or postal/hand submissions will not be accepted:
    • The full oration (max 7500 words) – 2 copies (one with name, one without)
    • Abstract (max 500 words) – 2 copies (one with name, one without)
    • Brief CV (max 2 pages) including contact details
  8. The author is responsible for ensuring submission reaches the College. It is advised to submit early and confirm receipt. For clarifications, contact the Secretary, CSSL.
  9. No substantial alterations should be made to the submitted text when delivering the oration.
  10. The duration of the oration, including introduction, will be 30 minutes.
  11. A selection committee appointed by the Council will evaluate submissions and recommend the most suitable candidate.
  12. If no submissions are received, the oration(s) may not be awarded for that year.
  13. The manuscript should not have been submitted previously or concurrently for another oration.
  14. Authors must obtain ethical clearance or provide justification for exemption.
