Guidelines for the Submission of Abstracts

Closing Date for the Submission: 15th May 2026

  1. All abstracts should be submitted online through www.surgeons.lk before 16:00 hours on Saturday, 15th May 2026. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstance. Submissions will not be accepted by post, by hand, or via e-mail.
  2. All submitted abstracts will be anonymized before evaluation and independently reviewed by two referees. Do not include any identifying information about the place or centre where the study was conducted.
  3. The corresponding author will be informed of the results via e-mail.
  4. All abstracts must follow the instructions provided on the online submission website.
  5. Abstracts must not exceed 250 words. Submissions exceeding this limit will be rejected.
  6. Case reports will not be accepted.
  7. Abstracts should follow this format:
    • Introduction
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Discussion and Conclusions
  8. Author names should be formatted as:
    • Initials followed by surname (e.g., P R Samaraweera)
    • First name followed by surname (e.g., Priyantha Samaraweera)
  9. Only recognized and commonly used abbreviations or acronyms are acceptable.
  10. Tables and graphs should be avoided unless essential. If included, they must be submitted as attachments.
  11. Abstracts will be published in the supplement of the Sri Lanka Journal of Surgery. The CSSL reserves the right to make minor edits to fit formatting requirements.
  12. If previously presented or published (fully or partially), this must be clearly stated during submission. This does not disqualify the abstract.
  13. The Council of the CSSL and the Selection Committee may request supporting materials (data sheets, databases, original images, consent forms, etc.) to verify authenticity.
  14. Authors must adhere to publication ethics, including avoiding:
    • Data falsification
    • Plagiarism
    • Improper authorship
    • Misappropriation of ideas
    • Violation of research regulations
  15. Oral Presentations: Parallel sessions may be conducted depending on the number of selected papers. Multimedia facilities will be available.
  16. Poster Presentations: Posters will be displayed electronically on screens during sessions.
